A free addon that does manage the nurbs better?

on blender nurbs control are stupidly tricky

you need to past a predefined nurbs from the shift + a menu, then edit that
or use the grease pencil, which offer a little more control, and then convert it to nurbs

on maya, it was easier to manage nurbs
rhino which is a nurbs based cad program offers different nurbs tools, which are good

I haven’t seen any addon that handles nurbs. The only thing I’ve seen is one tutorial a few months ago. So I think there is not much to expect.
