Nice start!
Perhaps instead of that rounded pillar over by that alcove, use a tokobashira. Also, I don’t think I have ever seen a tatami mat go on for ever like those.
Thanks, Neil! You’re right — a bit more detail on the tokobashira really would push the realism further.
This is actually based on a real villa in Hiroshima, so the tatami room is genuinely this spacious — not something you’d see in an ordinary house. Incidentally, it was also used for the G7 summit. I’ll upload some photos of the actual place.
