A more realistic night if possible

I’ve been working in my first night render, but I’m not happy with the result at all and I don’t know how to improve the final render. Any ideas or tips? Is there a way to remove the noise under the pier? (dark part of the render) I tried to render with more samples, but it didn’t work.

I used Blender 2.71, Cycles and a little of compositing for lighting.
