A newbie and his first 3D model

hello, that is the first body i ve ever tried to make .
i ve started making the different body parts seperately and i m going to join them when thea are finished ^^
please tell me what you think about it and tell me please what should me made in another way

Wow
This looks very good for a first project!

Keep up the good work, I hope to see more of your projects in future.

Have you used another 3D modeling program before?
If you haven’t I have a feeling your lieing, or you have been working on the model really long (or your amazing).

Maybe he can draw real good

look at that clean mesh. the guys a old hand

As far as I can see, being myself rather noob, the mesh is very good.
I have two crits : I noticed two tris that could easily be joined in one quad, in the knee area, and there is a stange angle in the upper view, if you just grab some vertices to her back and it will be fixed (hope that it is understandable ^^).
Other than that, it looks perfect, continue this way !

WtF??

If that is really your first project, than really respect
The mesh topology looks really great,
Greatz Michael

You’ve got a good mesh going. A couple of crits: the mesh in the back of the forearm is a lot denser than the mesh elsewhere. I assume that was due to the elbow, but I think you could reduce it somewhat. The calf muscle bulges are a bit too symmetric. You do have the inner calf a hair lower than the outer calf, but it could stand to be a bit lower still.

Most people model continuously since attaching parts is such a pain. Two problems come up: different number of vertices in the two edges to be joined and difficulty maneuvering around to select the correct vertices to merge. Alt Bkey can help with the latter problem, it will let you select a section of the model to look at and will hide everything else (something like H Key to hide selected vertices, but a lot faster and more flexible).

When you have different numbers of vertices to contend with, look to see if entire edge loops can be added or eliminated on one side or the other. The mesh still needs to flow across the boundaries where you attached parts.

[LoonieToon, pikseli, I’m sure you can find a way to express your amazement and appreciation for this fellows excellent work without accusing him of being untruthful. We like to give newbies the benefit of the doubt.]

to LoonieToon: No, I haven’t used any other 3D program except Blender before. I ve started this summer in july learning Blender with the documentaion 2.3 and then in august i ve started with looking for tutorials. That is when i found out things like topology and so on. In the middle of august i ve started with modelling and this how far i came in all that time. So it takes me pretty much time :). As I m going to make a second character ( a male) and as i m going to animate them( dancing or so ) i have a lot of work to do, e.g. learning how to put proper lightning, how to animate and so on

Now, I ve fixed the elbow (see pic) and i m going to post tommorow the foot, but now i have to get some sleep.
little question: if i have duplicated a mech with Alt+D, what can i do to apply the modiefier ‘subsurf’ on the copied part, i mean on the part i can t move. I hope you know what i mean

thank you all.

This is very empressive for that time!

Only thing though is that I think the head is too narrow.

The overall mesh is way too dense in some areas. The leg for example, you could halve the amount of vertical loops and still get about the same effect.

I know this is rather nit picky, but still

Uh, aside from that, you’re doing pretty well!

Nice work.
I suggest not "ALT-D"ing the mesh.
Use the Mirror modifier under the Modifier tab in the Editing menu (F9)

Another question: is there a possibility that blender makes from all 3 sided polygon just quads? thanks a lot ^^

Do you mean something like the mesh>Scripts>“Triangles to Quads” script that comes with default Blender install? Or the ALT-J command “Convert Triangles to Quads”?

yeah, that s it ^^ thank you very much

Here i am showing you my first attempt to join the seperate parts. first i ve joined the foot with the leg and then the leg with the torso.
as you can see there are some topology problems at the places where i put the parts together , especially i am still working on the area of the butt and the lower belly/hips. every tip and critique is welcome ^^
the more the better^^

tolobán discusses cleaning up meshes in this thread starting at post 64, plus there is an excellent example of a clean mesh by Wim. Your torso is looking very good, the only crit I’ve got at this point is the lower legs look just a bit short. Tip: use Alt+Bkey to limit the view to just the parts you want to work on. (You probably already knew that.)

Thaks a lot. My work would have been much easier if i have known that before. ^^i see a lot of hard work in front of me

hello everyone, a long time ago i ve posted my work the first time in thhis thread and as i didn t have enough time i couldn t post anything again. but here i m again
with some new pics:)
as always every C&C ist welcome!! the more the better
