A problem with my shadows

Hi there,
I am quite new to Blender, but with a decent Blender knowledge. This is probably a stupid question with an obvious answer, but I can’t figure it out. Every time I add a grid and render, shadows do not appear. I’ve tried fiddling with settings, but It doesn’t seem to budge. Could somebody please have a look and tell me what’s up with it.

Default sun lamps do not have shadows on. Go to properties for them and check On.
