A question about particles or something

So I’m making a particle hair grass on a plane, but I don’t want grass to appear on the plane where the tree is, for example…
how do I do this? Do I make a mask? How do I make a mask? Can anyone suggest me a good tutorial for this?

You can use weight maps or use external texture.
