A Road to a Castle

Rendered at only 100 samples.

This is really cool! Did you also model the castle or is it a picture you composed into the background?

I modelled the castle myself. The grass is a mix of three different particle Hair-setups that I made myself, and some plants that I downloaded from The Architecture Academy. The tree trunks and the two standing stones are also from The Architecture Academy. Everything else, is entirely my own work, including the castle.

I really like how you have grass with areas of dirt showing through. This makes it very realistic, many modelers have the grass be so thick that you don’t get a believable variation in the grass and landscape.

NICE! I love the grass and the distant castle is a nice touch. Although, I think using the “mist” to add the atmosphere depth might make it more immense.

might I ask what is the material setup for the grass? no matter how hard I try I can’t get good result…

This. looks. awesome.
'nuff said.

The grass material setup is actually the simplest thing. I am surprised at how simple a node setup that can create this grass material.

I just combined a dark-greenish color-ramp with the diffuse, mix it a bit (mix-shader .080) with a glossy (.132) (grey color) and a dark green translucent into the add shader.

I made two grass materials for all the grass particle setups. Only variation is the translucency color which, for the other grass, is more dark-yellowish.

But a lot of the grass effects are done in the compositor too with the final image, giving the glow/glare effect you see in the final render.

Very nice!

beautiful.the foreground is quiet realistic, castle repetition of left and right wings is not nice.

Thanks for your constructive criticism. I’ve already took my time to make another setting, this time with a small church instead.

I don’t know if you like it better or not:

hi philosopher

beautiful scene (1st image) seems like there should be a story behind it. where is the setting? Scotland?

shaun

Thanks. The scene is a typical danish landscape. But the place or castle does not exist in real world.

The first image is very nice overall, the only thing being that the puddle could’ve been a bit more transparent (and then you’d have a mud texture underneath.

The second image though, the atmospherics are a bit garish and seems to try hard to ‘fix’ what isn’t broken.

Wow this is amazing very well done you should do a close up of the castle cause it looks very detailed.

first image is nice except for the detail - repetition of turret(cylindrical part) in the castle, also turret is not integrated with rest of building, google for castle turret ,manor house etc.,to see how it is placed.maybe make it symmetrical(-right turret also placed at outer corner)

Actually I did have some trouble with the water puddles. I should have looked at real photos of puddles before making this one.

Castles in Denmark, such as Nyborg and Estrup has this kind of architecture.

I appreciate your feedback and criticism. Keep it coming, because that is what I learn from
