a sound cartoon

I’m interested in making a small animated short, the only problem is that I have no idea how to edit my sound and music with my final rendering. Help would be much appreciated:D .

Thank you.

We’d need to know what system you’re on to answer properly.

In simple terms, at this stage, on Windows or Mac you’ll need a video editing/compositing application like VirtualDub or iMovie or one of the commercial alternatives to combine audio and video in one file.

To “edit” the sound you can use something like Audacity. You can bring (multiple) sound files into Blender Sequencer to help with timing your animation then export the audio using the MIXDOWN option and export your animation using the Animate button. You now have two separate files.

Bring the audio video file into the editing app to combine then export in your favourite video format.

If you’re on Linux then recent versions of Blender incorporate ffmpeg and you should be able to export a muxed file directly.

We’d need to know what system you’re on to answer properly.

Right now i’m using a Window XP Media edition, but i might get a new computer. I understand that you are saying I need a video editing program, so do you know any good free ones or atleast the cheapest ones?.

Edit: I downloaded VirtualDub and Audacity, so never mind about that question. I do have another question though, I’m not exactly sure how to export the animation, I thought it was by pressing the ANIM button but apparently I was wrong, so how do I export animation?

There’s a choice of ways to export an animation. You can export a sequence of images, often recommended for “large” projects or output directly to a video format.

You select the format in the Format panel (next to ANIM panel). If it’s a short animation and since you’re finding your way around, choose something simple like AVI or AVI Codec (you can choose a codec like DivX or something to compress the file). On the left of the buttons window, in the scene (F10) panels, is the output path. Enter a location and filename here. The video will export to this location. If you do an audio MIXDOWN, this will go to the same location with a related .wav filename.

Thanks for all the help:D . I just have one more problem though, you said

, well there is more than place to enter a file name and i’m not sure which one is the one you are talking about.
