Similar to my current YouTube channel banner of a canyon made of orange-red pillars. This one looks like lava.

I made it by displacing a subdivided plane with procedural textures (added with modifiers), and using a particle system on top of it to place the pillars on every face. Then, a basic scene was created with a sun lamp, grey background, and a material that takes the particle’s z (vertical) position and converts it into a colour with the colour ramp node.
