Hi there! I’m just started to use Blender (version 4.0), so my problem could sound silly for y’all. I can’t open or import files from my laptop to Blender. I click to “open”/“import” (and choose the type of file I want to import), then I click to folder “documents”/“downloads” and nothing happens. It looks like Blender doesn’t have access to my files, but I don’t know how to fix it
Errrrrrr ………… not sure what you mean but:
you are missing the last and most important steps – select the file you want and hit the open/import button in the open/import screen.
Nothing will happen untill you select a file and hit the button to open/import it. Or double click the file.
There are no changes in the UI to open the file.
Please upload a screen capture.
Or try initializing the blender
Welcome to the forums…
Did you accidentally deny Blender access to files when you installed it?
Can you go into system settings and allow the needed access?
I assume you use Windows, which I do not. If you think this might be a fix and are lost, then provide your operating system version and someone might be able to help.
Or is it that Blender will just not open the download folder at all ???
You could test for having access or not. Open a new file, add a couple of basic mesh objects and try saving. Is that working? If you can save, can you reopen the file after restarting blender? If you cannot do saving either then it is likely to be an access permission issue.
You can also try drag and dropping an image into Blenders 3D window.
It would help to let us know what type of files you are trying to open. It may just be a beginners file opening error you are having… This happens occasionally.
Also check the outliner at top right. has anything appeared there?. A common issue is folk importing .STL files which are always tiny in Blender. Unless you know it needs to be scaled up * 100 at least, then people think the import failed.
Welcome …
…like some already said…
You may have to elaborate this to get a more suited answer.
Hi. I can open/save/reopen blender files. Problem was with the files from my laptop.
Seems like, as you said, I deny access to files when I installed Blender (but I just noticed it, because I needed to import a svg file and found that I wasn’t able to do it). Now I’m gonna to fix it in systems setting.
Thanks!
