Adobe acquiring Macromedia

More news on the subject is that Abode might have bought Macromedia because they thought Microsoft was going to.

Adobe is very serious in not getting into AppleFinalCutPro vs Premiere troubles again.
This does make me wonder if they will use the bought assets to improve upon or just throw it away.

big update. didn’t feel like creating a new thread.

the deal has completed, and now adobe is the dominant content creation software company (except 3d, of course, untill they buy alias or autodesk/discreet), and the adobe website now contains combos of both companies’ products.

wow!

there is no integration, but you can be assured that the next versions of everything, once they settle on the programs they want to keep, and convert dreamweaver, fireworks and flash to their interface, it will be cool.

(not to bring up warez, but that package has been available for much cheaper for a while   )

How long will it take to integrate Flash Player and Adobe Reader?
It will be a multiyear effort. Ultimately, our goal is to combine both in a single client. Combining PDF and Adobe Reader with Flash and the Flash Player will allow us to deliver a truly ubiquitous platform that sits on virtually every device. We will build on that to create compelling customer solutions.

I feel like I’m going to throw up… I cannot stand the lack of competition…

The main feature GIMP lacks that I need is integrated CMYK color mode. It’s essential if you’re doing any sort of print work.

For me it lacks the ability to be simply installed and run on a Mac. Any graphics software that doesn’t run Mac native is going to have a hard time getting press industry acceptance where Macs are still a major, if not the major, player.

When the coders make it Mac ready, I might take a look at it. But while I have to first find, download and install a virtual Windows (eek!) environment in order to use Gimp, I’m unlikely to bother.

find and install x11? that shouldn’t be such a big deal

is this relavant? http://orange.blender.org/blog/seashore

At least GIMP and Krita have time to catch up photoshop a little if photoshop stagnates.

Seriously thinking, I’m not very fond of monopolies neither.
