Advice on how to model a human brain?

I am in need of a brain for a 3D scene.

my gut is to start with a sphere or a part of a sphere, maybe the frontal lobe, then extrude and shape my way back toward the stem, then slap on a bump map representing the brain folds, and with sufficient sub-division, get a passable brain.

is there a better way? I need the brain to look real, or real enough, if you know what I mean.

this is not for a medical application, but for a creative piece. A medically-accurate brain would be fine and dandy, but I think there’s some lattitude for my purposes…

any suggestions on how to start, or whether my gut is a good way to start?

thank you,

rc

i dont know how quick it would be because ive never done something like that, but you could try to sculpt it. With enough work it would look a lot better then a bumpmap i think.

do a search it’s been done before

hope it helps

salutations

For those that may need a new brain, download a CC one here in 3ds format that you can import into blender.

Yep, rough out the shape, then sculpt it. Get some reference images, front, side top, make a background image of the 3, then go at it. That’s the only way really.
