Advice on modeling with clothes

Hi,

I have been watching tutorials on blender for some time now but I still don’t know how to start my project and I hope you can advise me on that.

What I’d like to do is have a person dressed in a monk robe, sitting on a rock.

I am guessing the person’s mesh does not need to be hyper detailed as it will be hidden by the robe, even the face (hood).

But what confuse me is the robe … I was thinking of modeling the robe over the body and use cloth simulation but if I do so, how should I do to pose the character?
Should I pose it and then simulate the cloth? Or the contrary?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I like the method used in this video:

It combines using the deform modifier and the cloth simulation together. I believe it covers your question too.

Thanks, it’s a nice starting point. It still looks a little like a workaround than a proper method but what do I know?
I will give it a try even if that sounds to be very difficult for a robe …

Wow! Thank you PyroGXPilot! That will be useful!
