AI Impact on your Art Style

As a 3D artist, in what ways have AI technologies influenced the development of your artistic style?

It has given me alot of Ideas for Character designs

I’m still waiting for a utility that uses AI to help create seamless textures in a nice way. Maybe something to smooth transitions of texture-features of UV island perimeters, or even just intelligently decide the best islands to mark seams around.

I’m finding that the things AI can’t do is more telling than what it can do, and the curtain gets pulled back on how the sausage is getting made, bit by bit every day. I’ll just wait.

So I don’t think it affects “style”, or at least shouldn’t, but just the utility of things.

Generative AI is nice to get quick concepts of your ideas.
But I agree with LDAsh here, that it would be much more useful to have AI assisted tools for UVs or texture baking for example.

I think that is solves a fundamental problem about “how it should look” or “how do I go with this”. Is like having the answers ready.

However if you think that you get the answer ready, now it means that all of the effort and the problem, is going back to more primitive constructs. Now the entire mass of the work goes back on the fundamental principles, such as design language, primitive shapes, volumes, art theory, design theory.

Perhaps someone would consider that you won’t have to go so deep and you just use whatever as it is. But then again when it comes to creating production assets in Blender (models or nodegraphs), you need to work your way backwards and figure out how to get from the end result to the beginning, by breaking down the elements and creating everything from scratch.

Well … I have to quote from the video:

“resulting in more realistic, and emotionally engaging animation”

Unfortunately this is a good description of what is not on display here.
Don’t know about you, but what I see, that is a shiny, fancy, but also utterly robotic figure talking without an inkling of passion or other emotional involvement, and a creepy lack of eye movement. I’d say you obviously found yourself a quick and efficient road right into the middle of the Uncanny Valley.

I think, what you really want to say, is somewhat shorter:

I’m not trying to be sarcastic here btw.
That little difference is crucial in my view - it is what much of the AI-vs-artists discussion is about.

I kinda agree with you, but I also see it similarly as Anabran.
What is the difference between using a reference library made up of works from human artists vs using a reference library of AI “art” that is derived or ripped off of human art?

If you use it as a source for inspiration and your end result is unique and different than the source of inspiration (rather that directly copying/stealing the reference) there is hardly a meaningful difference.
It still gets processed through your creative mind and you retain all the creative choices.
The last part in the process makes the difference.

None, and I’ve been writing that in the other thread often enough.
Trying to put up a stand against gen AI from a defensive position that’s centered around a “download reference from the net and slap it on the canvas background” workflow is futile.

While undoubtedly true in some cases - as a general statement, that’s decidedly too convenient for me. Same ballpark as “good artists copy, great artists steal” and “all artists stand on the shoulders of other artists”. That’s just stuff people say to make excuses for themselves, and coin their own economy-driven approach on “art” into what’s perceived normal.

Btw, in the case of the video above I suppose there’s no intermediate step between AI generated design, and the final design wee see on screen. But I leave it to @Anabran to correct that impression.

AI concepting is great for a rapid starting point, but it completely shifts the heavy lifting down to the absolute fundamentals. It gives you a surface-level target, but zero technical execution. The moment you try to translate a flat generation into a production-ready environment, you realize you haven’t actually saved any real troubleshooting time.

Please use the existing thread of AI, if you wish to share your thoughts on that topic.
