I present work I was working on some time ago.
This was a project made for a competition for a “place of recollection and prayer at the new airport terminal in Warsaw Okęcie Airport”. The condition of the competition was to make a transformable space in which can be both Christian and Other Religian (Muslim mostly) part.
Our team designed space which can be separate by sliding walls. Those walls can be move to the corner and then the space is open. But when wallls are closed, we have two different chapels.
There were also some design constraints, such as the need to fit 20 chairs, the use of the cross, pulpit, tabernacle of the previous chapel, placing metaphor of mihrab…
The result You can see below.
Thanks to Blender and Cycles I was able to achieve visualizations which helped us to win this competition.
The implementation will be in this year.

I’ve never been able to achieve clear render when the whole scene is closed. I always hide some part of the scene and it seems to work sometimes. But not always, I’m afraid. I don’t have a good method to achieve perfectly non-grain render. But I quite like the grain recently. It gives some filling of realism.
Here I didn’t do anything special. I’ve hidden layer with back wall ( I was sure that nothing had to reflect from that part of scene). I used a few spot lamps with power of 50-100 for lightening the room and plane with emission material with power of 5 to achieve this light from the outside.
I rendered this pictures with 2000 samples with Blender 2.68 and Cycles. I used “Full global ilimination” but now I think that the value of 32 would be better.
And that quite everything
