Here is the layout for the interior as an OpenGL render (haven’t textured this yet). Also a shot from inside one of the side rooms.
I like all the cool details. Nice model.
Great improvement!! i love the friezes
A nice screen shot of the interior layout. It must have been dark inside there, especially in the rear rooms. Photos of the Khazneh show a nice sandstone with bands of different color on the inside. Are you going for this style when you texture the inside - if you have plans for that?
I do want to try for the banded color type effect. It looks nice. I figure for any interior scenes I could add torches to help illuminate it more. But that will have to wait. Right now I am working on the first griffon statue.
Here is my first attempt at a griffon. It will be used at various places, including above the doors.
I modeled the legs as separate objects so that I can easily move them into different poses. I based this off reference photos of a table top metal sculpture that had a series of wavy lines carved into it to represent fur. I tried to capture that look with a wave texture.
very good. I’ve been to Petra a couple of years ago. I think there is another floor below the one that looks like the ground floor now. http://www.bibleistrue.com/qna/petrat6.jpg
I took some pictures back then: http://secondpage.de/slideshows/jordan/petra/11.html
Wow. Mind = Blown. I love the amount of tiny detail in the chapiters and friezes.
I’ve been there and this makes my memories back
With all the reference photos out there I have found, this is the first time I have seen a basement floor. Thanks for the post. I will check out the rest of your photos as well.
Since the center triangle decorations are completely worn away, I decided to add my griffon statue there in the middle with its wings spread outward. I think it looks pretty good.
Next up is to model some of the statues. I have never successfully modeled a person, and so far my current attempt is also giving me grief. If anyone has any advice at all on how to tackle people, or knows of some good, easy to follow tutorials, let me know.
Been doing whatever comes to mind for the statues, instead of trying to follow what is at the site. The statues at Al Kahzneh are in pretty bad shape so its hard to tell what they all are. So here are a couple that I came up with. The soldier is on the first floor, and the guy in robes on the upper floor.
And here is a female head I did. For the hair I actually used hair particles. I absolutely suck at sculpting, just can’t get the hang of it. This is think looks pretty decent. Any thoughts/opinions are most welcome.
Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks blenderjunky. Your work on the star destroyer is fantastic. I have enjoyed watching your progress.
The statue of the angel has turned out nice. I like the modeling.
But there is a strong contrast between the bump of the clothing and wings on the one side and the smoothness of the body on the other side. The body appears to have a different material, which looks as if it is dressed with clothes made of sand stone. Maybe you could turn the bump for the clothes down and give some bump to the body also. Or perhaps you could chose a completely different material like white marble or something similar.
The feathers on the wings are a very nice feature ad well made.
You are correct minoribus. What I have been doing is making copies of the material and adjusting a few numbers to control scaling and bump strength. I had these a bit misconfigured and have adjusted them.
Here are 2 new renders. The first is the detail above the main entrance. The other is all the status on the top level.
Excellent modelling! Keep it up! You will want to change the materials though. They are too saturated right now, and the shade seems a little off.
SO a while back I actually thought I was done with this project and even made a thread under finished works to show the finished thing and forgot about it. Months later I come to realize just how far from done I really was. So I am coming back to here to post updates, since I have a lot of work ahead.
So I have been doing a lot on materials, switching from a procedural base to image based texture, which helped a lot. Starting with a clean version and then will start with dirt and weathering,
Also yesterday got a better look at the interior pillars in the back corner of the entry way and saw I was way off. So started remodeling them. Here is a screen grab showing what I have done for those pillars with the new material in place. This is fairly close to the real thing, with some artistic license on my part in the finer details.
