Here’s my second project in progress. For this one I’m hoping to get a lot more definition into the muscles and have enough detail that it can be rigged without quite so many nasty creases and what not. As for any comments or suggestions, point out anything that could look plain old cooler, as that’s what I’m going for here.
Pretty cool…
Been putting a bit more work into the model. Slow going, but I’m so excited about Blender that it’s just fine with me.
Lots of parts are still being worked and tweaked, but if anything jumps out or doesn’t seem right, feel free to say so.

Well, his abs appear to have been extruded in that they’re just sticking straight out of his torso without any blender or any of the muscle wall around them. I mean, I don’t know how muscular you are, but assuming you have at least a modest set, flex your stomach and look down. See how the muscles draw off and back from the center, and how they’re interwoven with the rest of the torso? One other thing is–though his legs go back, he doesn’t appear to have any pelvis.
I’d like to complement you on the feet, though. Very nicely done.
Something about the extra leg joint bugs me, but hey, it’s an alien so I guess it should!
Looks cool. Love the feet!
Thanks for the critiquces, these are going to help immensly. Apparnently I did something right with the feet.
I have no critiquces to give out, but I would like to say that it looks pretty cool. You should tell more about your project or give a background to what it is where looking at.
I’m a huge fan of the Halo games, so this was pretty much inspired from the elites in that franchise. So it’s an alien thing with the same basic body-type, ((read: legs )) with my own twist ((also read: inability to properly replicate other’s models)).
I started messing around with the sculpting tools from the next installment
of Blender, so hopefully I’ll be able to make those abs and muscles look good after I figure out how to use it properly. ((read: Blender freaking rocks!))
Okay, haven’t been doing too much on this model as of late since I got wiped out by a cold, but I’m back now, if a bit drunk on meds.
I began working on the head and face a bit, as I think I’ll save the muscles and refinement on the body for when everything in its place and I can use the sculpt tool on it. As for the head, I could definetly use some input. I’m thinking about maybe making it a somewhat bird-like with a stubby beak type apparatus for its mouth. Any suggestions would be heavenly.

The head seems fairly good, except it looks as if it has too many loops for the current level of detail. Flesh out the head in the lower number of loops and add more as you need them.
For instance, looking at the lip-area (I believe), it has 10 loops or so, when it only really needs 2,3 or 4 maximum. Obviously this goes out the window with multires and sculpting and such, but as the base mesh, it would still need to have a low number of base loops.
I can’t help too much with the head ideas, you already put out a good idea with the bird-like form. Google images could very well be your friend, or Yahoo, whichever you choose. I’d definately use references, even if they aren’t in the window. Very helpful for ideas.
Get a good idea on what you want your head to be before you start adding detail, if you need to change the overall form later it’s much harder with 100 loops versus 20.
I took your advice to heart, Contagion, and it’s helping an incredible amount. Thank you so much! Here’s the result of a bit of foolin’ around with the model. I’m getting somewhat satisfied with the profile, but the front on view… not so much.

Here’s the updated model so far. The head is attached to the body now, and I can start to add some detail and fix some of the muscles soon. Only one side of the body is being detailed at this point, and I’ll just mirror it later.

I’ve pretty much finished up the model, aside from some minor adjustments that might happen later. I stuck the pictures up in the top post.
congradulations on a near finished model!
You must be new to blender and to 3d. I can tell because of your edgeflow on your models is not too good. My suggestion is that you start learning about edgeflows and edgeloops right away. Just use goodle to search. And not only that.
Look for the

and if you do some digging there is soem great tutorials in teh Silo forum somewhere. I have them but I forgot exactly where I downloaded from.
Edgeflow is extremely important in modeling and you need to begin learning that soon. It’s good that you are using Blender and not Wings3d because it’s better to stick to quads and tris if you ask me.
Have fun
