align face of an object to the face of another object.

Ultimately, Blender need a function/button that snap one face of one object to a face of another object  I think it could speed up development considerably for this type of operations, and it’s more accurate than rotating an object manually to align with the other face.

I also realize that there’s no controls with normals. Another quick way would be to make the orientation of the normal of the source match the normal of the destination…

Where can we suggest features for Blender development?

How can I snap it to the cursor position? In the snapping options I only see: volume, face, edge, vertex, increment.

I think he means shift + s… then select selection to cursor??

@Sago: Thanks for mentioning Chromoly. There is his script Object: Align to Active Object, which works in 2.63 and does all that.
Script collection and graphicall win64/2.61 where this script is included.

Sago, I know it was a while ago that you posted your attachment, but it just saved me hours of work!

I just wanted to say thanks.

I’m using it to create a box which will need to be laser cut, but it has some really funky angles and the pieces need to be oriented so the face is “up” so they’ll export properly. Your technique is simple and elegant.

I found this add-on: align by faces (just select both faces in edit modes, then shift-select both objects, then click a button): Align objects by faces. (or github: https://github.com/trethaller/blender-addons).

It takes about 5-10 seconds if you know what you are doing.
Hope it helps.
