Alpha Image Settings?

Hi, I have read you can use an .png image with a transparent background, but I need to use an image with no transparency and another black & white image as my alpha to knock out everything but my tree.

The problem I am having is the alpha is not knocking out the color image. I have created 2 textures. One is my color image and the other is my alpha image. What settings in my textures do I need to use so I can knock out the stone with the X alpha?

And here’s what I’m getting. Not working, I’m sure I’m missing a s step.

Hmm… Not many people using alphas I guess.

OK. Load your image in the first texture slot and the mask (black and white) in the second textures slot. Map both to UV and in the Mask textures Map to: click on alpha twice turning it yellow and click the No RGB button. Now turn on the Ztransp button and set the alpha to 0 you should have a great cutout.

Jimtuv,

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have loaded my textures in slots #1 and #2 but I don’t see some of the settings you speak of. I don’t see the “map both to UV” anywhere or where I am supposed to “Click twice” to turn it yellow or the ZTransp button. Could you be more specific where these are. I have uploaded my settings.

Thanks

set the material alpha value to 0 (under the transparency box), and map the texture to alpha.

Forgot you were using 2.5. Here is some screen shots of what I am talking about. In 2.49 you would click twice to make alpha negative in 2.5 just click the negative button. The picture use image mapping UV and Color for the influence and the Mask use image mapping UV and alpha for the influence setting the negative and RGB to intensity buttons. Dont forget to turn on Ztransperancy and turn the alpha to 0
