Ancient Civilizations (Blender Guru competition)

So finally decided to enter a blender competition…

This is what have so far

Nice, how u made this bumps on walls, dispacment ?

I think he add displacement … but I think we will know it soon ^^

Yeah guys just added a displacement and messed around with the cloud texture till I got a desired look, however the block that form the floor are sculpted, with a displacement added on top to give them a bit more detail, you can’t really see this at the moment because of the lighting set up.

Another quick render, just trying to block out the scene, I’m not keeping that texture :stuck_out_tongue:

So after messing a round a bit more, I decided to recreate the scene with a few changes… with the most important one been not to use any kind of sculpting, and just use the displace modifier instead. I also added a bit of texturing what do you guys think?

I think the columns looked allot better before the recent changes. I also think the bricks on the left take up to much of the scene and there needs more variation.

Impressive work, it seems this contest is full of people who will be incredibly hard to outdo.

Thanks for the comments guys…

@mack, I couldn’t agree with you more on the columns, I still need to add some more detail to them, just trying to go about doing it with out dynamic sculpting as it creates to many vertices etc… In terms of variation and other issues you pointed out with bricks on the left, I think it will be fine as I have got other elements to add such as vegetation, so hopefully it should solve the variation and the fact that they take too much of the seen up as they wont be as easy to see.

@Cube, thanks, give it a go!

Another quick update with some more textures and the blocking of some major elements.

Another Update

Added some tress and stuff…

Oh, looks like this is promising! Your piece is starting to shape itself pretty well.

(Those stones in the middle look like they are floating (or should fall in the water) by the way. Just sayin’.)

Thanks, do you mean the ones circled in red or green?

The red circle. Seems unnaturally held in place.

Now that you have said it, I can’t stop thinking about it and how to fix it :stuck_out_tongue: But yeah I see what you mean, I think maybe if I just change the camera angle slightly it will solve it

So changed the camera angle as well as adding some more detail.

The background seems a little too dark for the amount of light in the picture.
I really like the tree on the left though, looks almost photorealistic!

Thanks for the feedback, yeah now that you mention it, I see that it does not really fit the see, think I’m going to have trees over the top and then light rays coming through the trees.

Added some more trees etc…, bit too dark I think now.
