Hi everyone!
I’m currently working on this personal project which is a VFX shot as a test of Blender’s camera‑tracking tools.
The background plate comes from a drone video by Mehmet Kılınç, exploring the ancient rock‑cut tombs of Turkey at sunset. It’s available on Pexels under a CC0 license.
I really liked the footage and wanted to experiment with a small set extension.
I attached several cloth strips to the branches of the trees, each one driven by wind forces and cloth simulations. There’s also a central banner in the scene with its own cloth sim. I may replace some parts of the original background plate later in comp to achieve a better final look.
I modeled five variations of the trees and scattered them throughout the environment, each running a different cloth setup to add variation and movement.
What you’re seeing here is just a playblast straight from Blender, but it already gives a good sense of the overall look. Next, I’ll be doing some rotoscoping in Natron to mask elements and improve the integration.
I’ll keep updating this thread as the project evolves, in case anyone is interested in following the process.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks!
