Thanks for providing us with different way of making electric volt. Here is my quick build using your method. And it works fine. I like it.

I experimented with adding subdivision along the electrical discharge. You can move those points around to make more wavy discharge.

You could also cut the whole beam into 4 total segments, and attach hooks to each subdivided loop and animate thos aswell to give a more “wavy discharge” as you stated. Very good idea ridix!
