Hi, I’m a bit new to animating in blender. I’m working on a project where I need to animate an egg hatching. I would like to do something where the egg wiggles and then cracks into a few pieces but I don’t know how to go about this. The model and animation will go into a game, so it has to stay low poly, obviously.
Any suggestions would be great as I have an idea how I might do it, but I get the feeling there is probably a more efficient way.
sorry to bump, but i would like some suggestions
anyone? please?
Fractureme is a good script you might find useful. You can download it here.
You basically create a mesh, then run the script and it will ‘crack’ it, replacing the mesh with several separate pieces with sharp edges in the same position as the original mesh. You can tweak the number of fragments and the detail in the cracks in the script. After you run the script, you can then position the pieces how you want. I played around for a couple minutes and came up with this.
I basically created a UV sphere, then extruded the mesh and scaled it up very slightly to create a shell. I then ran Fractureme and positioned the pieces how I wanted. If you want to animate the sphere breaking, I would use the physics simulator, and create a ball or other mesh inside the shell, and animate it poking upwards through the shell several times. When you run the physics sim those pieces should then fall off the top of the shell when hit and tumble naturally.
excellent thank youu very much!
