Animating rig with child rig, second animate overwrote first and the keyframes are on the wrong rigs

hey, here once again, yet another blender moment where Ive lost a bunch of work, lost a bunch of work for no reason. I had a first animation for flying, and a second for walking, and the walking animation somehow overwrote the keyframes of the flying animation and they’re just lost now. and, the keyframes are on the wrong rigs, the character rig is on the wings rig.

Ive kinda had it up to here with blender recently ngl so if I could get some help I’d really appreciate it. If you need the file I’ll send it over. How am I supposed to get this to work.

aaaaaaaaaaand now it crashes whenever I open the autosave folder, AWESOME program

AND AFTER REOPENING THE WALK ANIMATION IS CORRUPTED, DUDE, ARE YOU SERIOUS.
I am fuming

even the ui is corrupted. unfathomable. What a joke

If you want to send the file, and the blend1 if you have it, I’ll take a look.

here they are, Ive been trying to fix the rig which is also just corrupted now too, and even on a backup when I parent the mesh to the rig with automatic weights it does this

Im getting the feeling I have to totally redo all the weight painting, remake the rig, set all the ik settings again, and redo 2 finished animations. I am at a loss for words. even backups are corrupted
bugger.7z (1.2 MB)

I thought the file may have corrupted when I parented the wing rig to the body rig but even further back backups are corrupt

Here, try this one: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1b1bEuh0ucK7n0OVPnImp9vUicioEBKeF/view?usp=share_link

Other than the overwritten flying animation, It seems to work on my computer right from the get go, so I can’t even begin to figure out the issues you’re having, sorry.

If you haven’t already, you can also try renaming your blend1 file to just a .blend. But the .blend1 file may have been overwritten if you’ve been saving as you try to fix things.

do you really see the character walking? I still just see the wings moving and the character is still, also Ive noticed that every bone set itself to 0 scale in the viewport display settings, after setting some bones to 1 again I see them moving but the character just isnt moving.

I found a super super old backup that isnt corrupted, probably because it was an old rig that had to redo the arm bones to make them IK. I tried to append this model to keep its weight painting and use it on that one but they had no weight painting on them when they were appended. blender is literally not working in any conceivable way right now. and Im trying to fix it on 2 different computers and Im getting the same results on each

Yes, I really see it walking. Give me 1 sec and I’ll attach a video. You can tell me if it’s what it’s supposed to look like.

oh my god I just opened it on my non work computer and it works on that one specifically, thank you so much, but how is that possible? I downloaded the same file I gave you from the same link and it was corrupted? did you do anything to it? probably not right?

I didn’t do anything to the file I downloaded this is the Blend1, the original Blend was missing the animation to get the animation working.

I did have some issues getting it to render from that file, the animation played fine, but wouldn’t render, so I opened up a new file just now, appending everything in, deleted the original camera, added my own camera (the camera was the only change I made), and it played and rendered fine.

thats so odd, I did try the blend1 way earlier when I saw it was corrupted and it didnt fix it, maybe I did it wrong? in any case you just saved me like a week or more of work so massive thanks.

the issue from the title still stands about animated two rigs in sync, Ive messed around with it a little bit and it seems like you have to set the animations per object, so you would have to set walk on each object, so maybe originally I created the walking animation by copying the flying animation and then cleared all the keyframes, but since the wings were still in the flying animation state it deleted those keyframes too? not sure, Ive been trying to recreate it and cant do it.

but I cant even begin to care about what caused that animation to get overwritten right now, thank you so much again for getting a working file, I dont think I have felt that much dread before, I have to take a break from this project I think
