Animating shoulder problem (rigify)

Hi everyone
I was trying to fix this shoulder, but I’m still not sure how to solve it.
I use rigify because i thought it would be easy and somewhat decent rig with no problems.
I tried changing location of bones countless times, I tried to animate differetly but nothing worked. Any help is appreciated.

If someone wants my blend file just tell me.

First of all it looks to me like you expected the shoulder to take a “good” pose automatically when lifting the arm. That’s not the case though, you need to rotate “shoulder.L”/“shoulder.R” bones manually to lift the respective shoulder accordingly.

Moving shoulder doesn’t help that much. Here’s a better picture explaining the problem hopefully.

What is the “rest pose” of the model, was it in a T-pose or with the arms to the side? The latter might be the cause of the issue, as Rigify tends to do a pretty good job with auto weight painting.

I made two 1-minute tutorials showing how to rig a simple character with Rigify, you can watch them here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OZVTOF1U_U (part 1)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-OSWKJg0ss (part 2)
These are for Blender 2.79, but the same principles still apply.

yea, I got arms to side. I thought it didn’t matter, but its true i could thought of that. So I guess its late to change because it would cause more problems than it is causing now probably. Thanks for everything

That’s a classic, I’m sure everybody new to rigging has made that mistake. It’s never too late to change, part of rigging is trial and error, and you may have to redo stuff from time to time.

It’s actually good to repeat the steps for using Rigify a few times, so you know it by heart. It really only takes a few seconds once you know how to do it, so don’t worry about redoing it! Good luck

I gave myself a bit to think and i realised that there is that new pose tool, AND IT WORK (for now). I will have to fix all of my animations but that won’t be that big problem
