AM holds a license over their characters and vigorously go after people who create rigs/ characters similar to theirs, for that reason I think the links were taken down.

There’s a great rigged “ball & tail” character at http://elblog.ddediseno.com/?p=232

He even provides a tutorial on how to create your own.

I don’t really want a discussion going here, but I think that except for the Bishop rig, the AM rigs are toooo generic to claim ownership. Even their mascot looks like the character of Nickelodeons Catnip and half of the bug characters of the golden era of animation.

edit: By the way, there is a very cool Ball and Legs rig that I found in the Blender forums in CGTALK. It’s not the AM ball and legs, but it looks nicer. I’ll see if I can find the link…

Yeah, I think if you just tweak the characters a tiny bit it’s okay (color, hand/foot style, etc.). I can understand that they don’t want to have exact duplicates of their characters being animated poorly because it makes it look like the poor animation is the product of their training. Those characters have become icons for the level of training they provide. IMO, they have every right to protect that representation.

You’re right, I forgot about the name branding aspect. Indeed, the characters are so generic and simple, that it shouldn’t be that hard to tweak them so that people won’t associate it with AM animation.
