Anime Bedroom Environment - Cycles vs Eevee comparison

(Video at bottom)
This is a showcase of a project I’ve been working on for the past few months. Everything in this scene was made by me (excluding some textures). All assets were hand modeled (including the character), and many textures were also custom created, such as the book covers and writing on paper.

I originally created this scene to test the real-time compositor in Cycles but decided to port the project to Eevee to achieve true real-time. I encountered many interesting challenges when doing so, which I’ll discuss in my upcoming walkthrough/breakdown of this scene. I’ll also lay out the pros and cons of using Eevee or Cycles in scenes like this.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Some things in Eevee (mostly glass/water) will look strange because I did not use screen space refraction. This is due to one of the challenges that arose when porting this scene to Eevee, please excuse how it looks a little strange.

I put a lot of time and effort into this project, it was really fun to sit down and create a full asset in one sitting and then be able to add it to the scene. Over the last 2-3 months it was a really nice chill project to work on going into a lot of detail regarding the world-building. Who owned this room? What books would they own? What notes would they write? What’s in those file cabinets? I got to think through all of this when creating the assets and drawing the textures; it was an amazing experience.

If you’ve read this far, thanks a lot! You can check out my socials to stay updated on when I’ll drop my walkthrough/breakdown video, where I’ll discuss some of the interesting challenges I had, as well as some cool tips.

Great post! I added the #art-breakdown tag to it so others can learn from it too :+1:

Thanks! I didn’t realize that was a tag

Yeah we’re trying to figure out how to promote that better. Any ideas?

I’m not sure, maybe you could pin an announcement post?

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!
