Anime Style character - Zombie Girl

I recently finished a commission of a character which was for a zombie girl character designed by _Moxiit and the character was for ZombieGirlonYT but unfortunately they actually got their account hacked recently so I’m not able to link to them.

I was given a old concept art and they like my Anime Ballerina character so wanted something in that style.

The provided concept art, there wasn’t a higher resolution version and they said it was quite old so I had some freedom with how to interpret it.

I drew a bit of my own version to try and use for a base to work from. But I actually found it easier to just model with the reference off the side and just box model what I needed. I also usually have another window that is flat shaded just to look at shilhouette shapes.

For face topology I wanted to try the guilty gear style which doesn’t have many of the mouth loops but for this I don’t know if it’s really needed since I don’t think the characters would have too much extreme shapes plus I would probably use rigify for it.

I knew the hair would probably be the toughest part so I left that till last.

The hair probably took the longest time.

The hair was made with curves converted to geometry but then I wanted to make sure they were solid so what took a long time as well was combining all the hair with no intersecting geometry. Which I don’t actually know if it was necessary or not.

For the boots I decided to make some parts red to contrast the black and the client really liked it. I also played around a bit with shaders to give a bit of the fake sheen. Did something similar for the jacket as well.

Also doing all the lines for the hair was really time consuming as well.

Finally did a bit more shader work for the hair highlight and added in accessories

After all that I was finished with the modelling and texturing of the character.

Textures

I actually did two versions of the eyes one that is cell shaded style and the other has more blending. I personally like the cell shaded version more I feel it aligns with the overall character look.

Afterwards was rigging. I decided to try rigify instead of trying to make my own rig from scratch. The commission was actually just for the modeling and texturing. But it felt like a waste not to rig the character. Also the client said the character would be used just for Blender animation.

Rigify was pretty easy to pick up and add ever extra bones was needed.

Most of the extra bones I added were the tentacle limbs.

Everything else was just the normal Rigify rig

I tested out the rig which did show some areas that needed some extra geometry etc so I went back to fix those and pass the updated versions to the client.

I also did a walk cycle which I think looks alright, bits I don’t like and bits I do. But I needed to close to off and look for my next gig.

I did like the close up of the face though especially the little hair movements. They didn’t actually take as long as I thought it would to animate thanks to the IKs.

And that is the latest character I’ve made.

Looks beautiful! How long did it take?

I think the modelling texture was a month. The rig was like a couple of days
