Anisotropic Filtering

So this (http://bit.ly/dME7gA) thread came out a while ago showing the benefits for Anisotropic filtering and I thought it was a great idea for use instead of mipmapping. Moguri even wrote a patch for it that would enable it within blender (http://bit.ly/eUloRH). But this patch hasn’t been applied or anything in any of the revs or RC’s. Does anyone know of any way to add this to the priority of the release series? It would really be a nice feature for 2.57.

Blender (and thus by extension, the BGE) are in a feature freeze. Only bug fixes can be applied for 2.57. Although, I plan to get anisotropic filtering in as soon as I can after the feature freeze is lifted.
