Annoying problem with normals

Hi, This is probably something simple that I’m missing, but I’m having some really annoying issues with the normals… I’ve noticed that sometimes, (I think it’s when I just start with a plane, and extrude it and build an object) the normals all end up facing either negatively or positively on the y-axis… It doesn’t cause an issue in rendering, because when I calculate the normals outside, they’re on the right sides of the faces, but if I ever try to scale along the normals, it just goes along the y axis.

This is really bugging me, I followed a head modeling tutorial, and then I tried to put hair on it, but all the normals were screwed up.

So basically, is there a way to make the normals perpendicular to the plane? (I know there’s a specific word for that, I just can’t think of it right now…)

I can upload a blend file if anyone wants to see what I mean.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I’m not really sure what you mean, so I think a .blend file would be super.

Maybe applying the object’s scale in Object mode will help [Ctrl+A].

Try selecting in object mode and try Ctrl+A: Scale and Rotation to ObData.

Thanks! I didn’t think to apply scale and rotation! It works now! Thanks!
