I saw the blender files website complete with starships. I downloaded them and found out they were .ace files. What is a .ace file and how can I read them in blender?

Its a stupid third party compression software (http://www.winace.com/)
Dont use it! Its annoying shareware crap. Get WINRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar351.exe)
It decompresses nearly all formats including ACE crap. It is still shareware but only has a small window that pops up (easy to crack)
OR…
Forget WinRAR as well and just go with IzArc (http://www.izarc.org/) which supports all that and more. Also, it’s freeware.
