Any addon for hotkey based material assignement?

I would like to streamline my material assigning process. I find it a bit unintuitive sometimes to assign materials from the UI. In my previous 3d modeler I would press a hotkey then add new or assign existing material to selection.

I wonder if there are addons out there that are made for similar purpose?

I usually use Material Utilities , which allows me to quickly access the menu To assign or add material with a shortcut (Shift + Q).

This plugin is in blender itself and does not need to be installed, you can find it in Extensions.
