Hey I just wanted to ask if there were any news on the blender.org new website design as Ton states there was supposed to be a public beta a week after May 15th, and haven’t heard anything else about it.
yeah, at the end of the post in the right hand corner it says:
“Work on the back-end and framework has started some months ago already. We expect to release a public beta site within a week from now. This then is also the start people can get involved with helping out. Just wait for further announcements on blender.org.”
There was a Blender Podcast interview with Francesco where he talks about drivers behind site software selection
We interviewed Francesco Siddi, known from his work on Tears of Steel and we also talked about recent developments and plans for the upcoming year.

Hello everyone,
we are finally able to share some images from the work in progress
website. Comments and feedback are welcome.
During the week we will be able to start content migration, so who has
given availability will be contacted for further planning.
Btw, all images used in the carousel and banners are placeholders.
I can’t say I like what I see.Its certainly cleaner.
I don’t know what just yet, just feels like its the same as the old site but more “current” still seems to be too much text, and not enough appeal to new users. In terms of visuals.I’m talking about the homepage, obviously other areas can be full of as much text as you want
The new website looks a lot more modern than the old one, but there needs to be a way where the art made with Blender can also be front and center as part of the design (perhaps a front-page link or section where you can view the best of what’s been made in Blender as well as a feature tour section filled with images and video demonstrations).

+1 for ng-material. It looks more like a regular site, not a CG app site…
I dont mind Blender pulling from popular AD products, but not the website. Everyone already knows what AD does and what it sells. I think Blender has to inherently try a bit harder to get the message across.
I think this new design:
1 - the text is too light. difficult to read
2 - logo blender, top, is too small (the background light does not help to see it)
3 - the light background of the page is too dazzling (especially on LED screens)
4 - you might try a combination of text-background color similar to the original
5 - the space reserved for the image, above, should be limited to the edges of the page (it is now too wide)
@Saint Haven: Who says they pulled that from AD’s site? I suppose my whole Sketchbook is pulled from there too? I think it’s a wicked abstract design, and it’s blue and orange keeping with the logo. If you think about it, what can they put up there that another program CAN’T do? Pretty sure the whole movement behind the redesign is because the old one is a bit tired, and this one looks fresh and clean…and bada$$ too.
