Any way to have a super fast outline around my objects in viewport render?

Hi there,

I am trying to have an outline similar to the grease pencil line art but only around the outline of different objects. The viewport already does something like I want with the selection outline. It goes around the silhouette of the different selected objects, obscuring the one behind:

What I’m looking for is a way to have that, but in black, that shows up in the render, and that updates as quickly as the selection outline (the last one is a nice to have, but not vital).

If anyone has an idea, I’m all ears.


Well, there’s a classic 'inverted hull" method with solidify modifier (where you invert normals in modifier, assign shell to second material slot and set it to black material). Though, depending on the shape of your object, it might not look exactly like selected object outline.
