Apply different FBX armature Mixamo animations to same model to avoid re-doing materials?

I’ve got a Transformer model that uses a bunch of Octane materials and has a lot of parts. I brought the model into Mixamo, rigged it there, and then exported a number of Mixamo animations to FBX files.

When I bring the FBX files back into Blender, the materials of course are not preserved. This means re-assigning all the materials to the hundreds of parts of the model, which can be very tedious. I don’t mind doing it for one FBX animation, but it would be quite a pain to do it for all the different FBX animations I exported from Mixamo.

Once I’ve got the materials re-assigned in one FBX file (and saved as a new .blend file), is there a way to take the animated armatures from the other Mixamo-exported FBX’s, and apply them to the armature of the .blend file where I’ve re-assigned all the materials? This would be way easier than having to redo the materials for each separate FBX animation.

Did you save the Mixamo animations, with Skin? or Without?

You should save …without skin…

Then all you have to do is select the original armature in object mode and import the FBX animation…once imported you can delete the New Armature that came with the animation…then navigate to the Action editor, In the center dropdown box, select the new import and play… as long as the original mesh was in the T-Pose it should be just fine…if it was in A pose then your going to need to re-target the animation to the meshes rig…best to search here and find Re-targetting Miximo animations…

Thank you for the help. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get those solutions to work.

However, I did find a solution that does work. I used the Blender Mixamo plugin to create a control rig from the Mixamo animation. I was then able to apply other Mixamo animations to the control rig with that plugin and that worked.

Ahh yes the plugin…I tend to forget about it as when it was first introduced it was a real mess…so I never really used it again…I switched to Actorcore-Accurig…and I would use Expy-Kit to re-target animations which is what I mostly have to do…

Glad you got what you needed!
Happy Blending!
