Im using blender 2.48 and am starting to use lattices to modify basic shapes. But I can’t find the button to apply the lattice so it is gone, and the mesh just stays the shape the lattice put it in. In the end I just end up having to hide the lattice But this restricts the movement of the character.
It’s in the Editing (F9) buttons -> Modifier tab ->Lattice.
Modifiers are the 21st century way of adding deformers. 
If you are doing things the old way and parenting your lattice to the mesh, you first want to click “Make Real” in the modifier tab, then click Apply in the modifier.
