I think after finally ironing out the issues I was having with Octane it’s probably going to be my go to renderer from now on, at least until Cycles makes some strides…
Awesome Renders!!
Congratulations!
Did you make it with Octane or Cyles?
Thanks man…yea these are rendered with Octane.
Love them! nice contrast i like the french press crop a lot! I have always been interested in octan, how do you manage the asset conversion to work with octane, is it an object by object, material by material task? i have always thought of that as a bit daunting and it puts me off of even trying it since i´m getting used to the way cycles works and all my assets work on it out of the box. But man you can´t deny the results you can get with octane when you learn how to use it, very nice!
Thanks for the comment…Yeah it can be a bit of a headache converting materials(still looking for a decent material converter) but I figured it would be worth it for the improved image quality ![]()
I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!
Nice work. I am here since I checked your latest work and then went to look up your portfolio (which is attractive I have to say) and here I am, reading your comment about you switching to Octane. Would you mind to share your main reasons swathing to Octane? I am also looking into it. I think, I saw some renders with Octane years ago and the quality of colour and light was then superior, this clicked in me interest to know more about this engine. Thanks!
Hi neb thanks for your comment.
I switched to Octane only temporarily purely for realism, it just looks more realistic in my opinion, although I don’t use it now because I only have 6gig graphics card and it’s less forgiving than Cycles if you have little memory.
I have 8GB Vram so far. It’s not ideal but manageable. If I were to buy card now I wouldn’t settle for less than 12GB.
What’s it that makes renders on Octane more realistic? I am very curious. Oh and lat but not least is the learning curve steap to jump it from Cycles?
Thanks!
I believe Octane is a Spectral renderer which produces more realistic results than Cycles, the materials just look more ‘realistic’.
However as I said it uses more memory than Cycles and it’s a little slower to render.
Once you get a basic grasp of the materials it’s not too hard to learn but I have a lot of assets already set up for Cycles and got tired of converting them to Octane.
