Armour modelling help

Im brand new to Blender and any 3d modelling for that matter, as you can probably tell, most of my learning i do from trial and error rather than copying tutorials and using someone elses work.

Here is my WIP:http://img199.imageshack.us/f/blender2010072520224233.png/http://img199.imageshack.us/f/blender2010072520224233.png/http://img199.imageshack.us/f/blender2010072520224233.png/

Im going for a Gears of War/Halo look and the thing i need to know is, How do i get the hard lines of say…Straps/Metal onto the model? Also wanted some hard lines to frame the abdominals, i needed 3 failed attempts to get something resembling the abdominals themselves :eyebrowlift2: So i thought it better to ask here rather than mess around for a few hours .

Any help is appreciated, or directions to a tutorial.

When i get better i can maybe do something worth looking at :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for your time.

You could add in extra Loop Cuts (ctrl+R) near the edges you want to have sharp. You could also set the Crease value of individual edges higher than 0 (ctrl+E in 2.4x, in the properties panel (N) in 2.5x).
A recent tutorial using the crease option is Andrew Price’s latest one on how to model a kitchen (found on blenderguru.com).
For a tutorial on using the Loop Cut technique, I suggest you check out Jonathon Williamson’s “How to model a coffee cup” on blendercookie.com.

Will check it out thankyou.

I can see im going to have to get used to thinking outside the box, i wouldn’t have thought to look at a kitchen tutorial for answers concerning clothing models :eyebrowlift:

Edit: Worked like a charm thankyou

now i can mess around and create more chaos in my learning process :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha, I don’t blame you for not immediately thinking of kitchen and coffee cup tutorials. =P But keep in mind that a lot of modeling techniques are very diverse and multi-functional.

Congrats on making it work and good luck continuing with it! =)
