Asset Library, Saving Poses, Renders Wrong Pose

Hello, losing my mind a bit trying to make and use Pose Assets. I read this part of the manual:
https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/animation/armatures/posing/editing/pose_library.html
Tried watching multiple tutorials, (which didn’t seem to use the same methods exactly) and at this point. I just need help from live people. I have wasted a day trying to do something that used to be very simple.

I’m using 3.5.1, I have an armature that I can pose and it partially works in the asset library. In fact, I can even save poses and the thumbnails show the correct poses (most of the time), AND, I can even click them and get the armature to change to the matching saved thumbnail pose.

The issue is when I change to a new pose and render, it will ONLY render the last saved pose, even if in the main window the armature is in the position of the one I clicked from the thumbnail. I am using the Action editor and have tried multiple different steps based on different youtube and forum posts on how to do this, I can’t get it to work.

One of the great videos was this one, but I followed it and do not get the same results:

I finally found a thread about the bone names not being allowed to have preface words before the bone name. The armature I am using did in fact have “mixamorig:Spine” and all have the “mixamorig” preface word. I removed them all from both the bone name area and the action editor. That didn’t fix the issue.

I tried moving one bone, and pressing “i” record that bones location and rotation (saw a tutorial that stated to do this, but only the bones that were moved, no others) and then pressed the “Save Pose Asset”. Once I started moving other bones (I started with basic left upper arm up, right upper arm up, right thigh up, left thigh up, etc.) this method didn’t work. However if I selected ALL bones and pressed the “Save Pose Asset” it would “record” and save the new pose. Which is not what the tutorials I watched said to do…?

So I get conflicting results based on information I have tried to understand and at this point, I’m just tired of wasting so much time going nowhere.

I tried searching for “Pose”, “Asset Library Pose”, etc. And to my surprise zero results, which makes me think I am clearly doing something really basic incorrectly. If there is a thread or a current tutorial that can answer my questions (I have searched and read/watched a lot of videos/threads) please let me know.

Thanks for any help,

-Punker

EDIT: One more note that may help those that know more about this, after changing to a different pose and rendering, not only does it render only the last saved pose, but I just realized the armature is also resetting to the last pose in the main work window after the render finishes.

I figured it out! I missed this seemingly non essential tip from the manual:

“The pose asset can be renamed in the Asset Browser. There you can also right click on the thumbnail, then choose Assign Action to assign the Action to the active Object (see description above).”

Key point I missed, is that I HAVE to right click on the thumbnail and choose “Assign Action”, otherwise it will only render the last saved pose. I didn’t see this mentioned in any threads, or video tutorials which seems unusual that they don’t need to do this, but I do.

Perhaps it is due to the latest version. I upgraded to 3.6 in hopes that would fix my issue, none of the threads/videos were using 3.6 that I could find.

Just updating in case any other user stumbles across this issue (well, not a blender issue but rather a user error on my part) and can’t figure out why it only renders the last pose.

Hey there @Punker3D I think i’m running into a related issue but am not 100% sure it is the same. I too have gone in circles and stumbled on the same videos.

Blender 3.3.1

The problem : Thumbnails and naming aren’t correctly matching intended pose.
I have one character rig at origin, and “on one’s” have completed posing 40 general poses along the timeline. I now intend to save them all one at a time going down the line.
I select the pose controls I intend to save.
From viewport N panel animation tab, hit “create pose asset” it populates the asset browser with a thumbnail. BUT the pose thumbnail saved is NOT the pose nor camera angle I was on in the timeline. The thumbnail wont refresh if i try to regenerate it from the asset browser. SO I go to delete the incorrectly saved item from the asset browser with right-click > clear asset. Every time I try to save a new pose, blender automatically names it whatever I previously named my last pose asset, but with an additional “.001” - I will manually rename it in the asset library, or “adjust last operation” pop-up in the lower left of the viewport. And the issue will show up again randomly every other 1-2 attempts to save a new pose asset. it is driving me nutttts!!! what is triggering this issue!!!

Can you please share your click order for the saving the pose assets?

I only have the asset browser, viewport, and timeline panels open.
