Attaching appended objects?

Okay, say I made a model in one .blend file. This model has legs, feet, torso, and arms. I made a hand in another .blend file. When I append the hand, it appends as a seperate object. How do I set up the models so I can attach the hand to the body, or in other words, make it all one mesh? Without boolian, if possible. Thanks.

Join (CTRL+J) will make one object out of those selected. Mesh tools operations can then be done to “weld” the parts together as needed.
