Audio visualisations with Blender?

I’m working on a project for media studies, and as part of the project, I’ve been asked to create a small (40 seconds long or so) music video.

I would like to be able to create a 3D audio analysis animation, kind of a 3D version Windows Media Player’s “Bars” visualization seen here, but I have no idea how I would go about doing that.

I’ve been trying to do it using David Jarvis’ audio analysis script for blender, without luck - I can’t sync the animations to the audio properly.

I’m sure it mustn’t be too hard, as XMMS has a similar visualization written in C, I think. But I’ve little to no knowledge of programming, especially when it comes to things of such complexity, and am therefore at a loss as to how I could use such things with Blender.

Any help would be appreciated  Thanks
