Auto Rig Pro corrective shapes?

I’m new to Blender. I cannot add a ‘second’ shape to an arm with this workflow in Auto Rig Pro version 3.6.1. May I ask some questions:

  1. Is there an order of operation to making the Mesh shape assets?
    a. For example if you are making 3 consecutive shapes for a bicep flex, do you make the 1’st shape (90 degree elbow bend).
    i. Then the 3’rd shape (140 degree bend).
ii.Then use the first two to make the 2’nd shape (118 degree bend)?

  2. Do you have to make the shapes before setting up the drivers?
    a. What if you need to insert a 4’th shape days after the first 3 shapes were done and the character has been animated?

  3. Following this 3 year old training video, I can only make one corrective shape; I cannot add a second shape in version 3.6.1|

Well that depends upon what you want to be doing with the shape keys. At 90 degrees, you want the bicep the flex & bulge, right? At 140 degrees, the lower arm is bent against the upper arm as far as it can go, so I assume this shape key would be to fix the mesh of the upper arm & lower arm contacting each other, right? So is there a need for the one at 118 degrees?

Since you would create the 118 degree shape key from the other 2, I would think you wouldn’t need this one and only need 2 shape keys.

Yes, AFAIK, you don’t have a driver until you add it to something. Yes, you can add shape keys later on after animation.

That video appears to only be covering adding drivers to shape keys, nothing about creating them. Not sure what you mean by not being able to add a second shape key. In the object data properties shape key panel, you click the + button on the right to create a basis shape key. Click + again to add another shape key, Click + again and another one has been added.

Hope this helps,
Randy

Please refer to the video on the link

Thank you. I do not understand why I cannot add a second shaped following the tutorial at time index 2:08. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onVVzS-u9bQ (This ARP tutorial does not cover creating the Mesh corrective shape. Like “revolt_randy” mentioned.)

  1. When I attempt to sculpt the second shape and add the Shape driver, I cannot add the shape to the driver when I press the ARP “1” button.

I will try again, using the information from the tutorial “oo-1942” posted. Thank you.

Sorry for my misunderstanding, I watched the video from 2:08 on. From that point on he appears to be adding drivers to the shape keys, I thought you were having problems creating the shape keys.

I’ve never used auto rig pro, so I can’t help with that.

I can’t explain it exactly because I don’t use Auto Rig Pro, but what the lecture shows seems to show me using corrective shapes drivers to give the skin transformation that fits the muscle shape.

The lecture at the link below is the same. (Other lectures in the same way can help you understand :slightly_smiling_face:)

add…

It seems that the video creator had the same problem and turned that experience into a lecture.

Agreed. There does not seem to be current information helping people use “multiple” corrective shapes with Auto Rig Pro.

I can only get 1 corrective shape to work in Auto Rig Pro.
