Autoremesher open source auto-retopology tool

Yes, it starts to remesh as soon as a model is loaded, make sure that there arent any holes in the mesh.

Seems to be stuck or something. I closed the program after 4:43. I remeshed the same sphere(482 verts) using quadriflow in 0:07.

Try using the Voxel Remesher on the sphere and then Autoremesher, there might be some issue with the mesh or maybe it too low poly.

Indeed. Spiraling is a common fault of these class of algorithm…

Ditto. Something like a coarse quad layout, like this:

but more feature-oriented… respecting symmetry… and curvature (eye sockets, please!)

All these algos here are global, they work ok the whole mesh. More and more, I’m getting convinced it takes something that splits the mesh, working locally…

No luck with that either. Tried four different meshes, running as administrator and both versions of autoremesher. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s Windows 2004 causing it. My restart time now takes 5 times longer(11 minutes) and seen reports of slower performance after that update.

Thats suzanne. Subdivided, voxel remeshed and quadriflow remeshed (symmetry off).

Quadriflow does avoid poles at the expense of good edge flow. In Donut shape it also places poles which break ring topology. And … it nibbled Suzannes Ear.

Im not sure one could trust more complex sculpts to Quadriflow.

Quadriflow works best when the model has been decimated, try doing that, it gives you better results (at least for me) and is much faster.

Mh. I did not consider decimate. It makes Quadriflow muuuch faster.
Suzannes ear still suffer.

This also goes for Quad Remesher / ZRemesher by the way.

Technically, a triangulated watertight mesh is the optimum input source for all of these autoretop solutions. That’s the reason Adesk developed a mesh cleaner pre-retop tool that first converts the mesh to evenly spaced equalateral triangles.

Maybe you should jump back on the Max beta and try out the retop tool? If Martin and the team keep pushing it like they did the Chamfer Modifier then I could see this being the best autotopo solution around. It’s already a lot faster than ZRM 3 on very complex hard-surface meshes in the tests I’ve done.
You can use latest Max, indefinitely, for free. Come on Metin, you know you want to.

You’re abusing my nostalgic feelings!

But seriously, if Max manages to make a real comeback, I’d definitely be interested in the indie version.

@14AUDDIN

Jeremy confirmed the sphere is taking to long to remesh. It took him 10 minutes to remesh it.

I truly hope that Blender developers will improve remeshing core protocols to reach into ZRemesher level of features, this is example test i used to create thanks to remesh modifier that creates quite good quads when geometry is simpler. Auto retopology is really a time saving and interesting feature for future.

Remesh used on tower was to quickly achieve older look, without remesh it would have took much more fiddling.

Alpha 3 now released.

Did some testing yesterday.
Tried with body parts, hard surfaces, strange objects…
more than half the times it gets stuck running forever.
Hard surfaces: forget it. It crunches the borders.
Cylinder shapes: twisting artifact.
Symmetry: so-so. Could be acceptable.
Organics: if only I could get one out… :open_mouth:
In short, imho, it’s a long way to go. The tool is barely stable. I don’t know latest version…

Did some testing with the new Autoremesher
Original Mesh (156.5k faces):

Autoremesher 1st Alpha:

Autoremesher 3rd Alpha:

Autoremesher 3rd Alpha with only half of the mesh:

Blender integration of Quadriflow:

Between the first and third Alpha there are some minor improvements in the edge flow, although it still needs some work done with the poles as I think there are too many unnecesary ones and make the topology a mess.
Tried cutting the mesh in half and remeshing it with Autoremesher to see if I could mirror it to achieve symetrical results but the edges dont align with the cut. Maybe adding constraints where there are holes in the mesh could help fix this issue.

I thought it gets stuck ,but it’s slow as heck. I just tested alpha 3 with the “Poly Budget” set to low and it took 16 minutes to remesh.

These are all terrible results, Quadriflow included.

but Quadriflow looks much better than autoremesher in this test. But those bugs around eyelid nulifies the advantage )
