Great model and a beautiful render! Did you model everything in blender?

Heeey Martin!

Thank you so much for your kind words!

The AWM 338 Lapua Magnum was modeled 80% in Plasticity, after that I completed it in Blender and textured and rendered there.

Nicee, i was also playing around with it for the 30 day trial, very powerful piece of software!

It really is! I was always a big hardsurface modeling fan. HardOps, Boxcutter, Fluent, Blender Guppy, Meshmachine, you name it. But, for me it was a far more enjoyable experience to model in Plasticity. You don’t need to focus in fixing shading isues, overlapping elements… you just focus on creating.

I am at the moment looking for texturing softwares. Been testing out 3D Coat Textura and tempted to look into Marmoset. If you have any recommendations, please, will be greatly appreciated.

I found it hard to control bevels in Blender, or bridging elements with bevels, that CAD modelers do so well, also a godsend for cutting holes

I’d recommend Substance painter for texturing, really intuitive and fast workflow, with all the baking done inside, you can get a ton of smart materials from their online library and the generators make texturing easy and fast.

Oh what? Marmoset toolbag has a texture context now! Looks legit, have to look into it! Tnx!

Great work! Also been really enjoying Plasticity, I appreciate how similar the key binds are to Blender’s. I’d second Substance Painter, you can also look into Fluent Materializer if you want to try a more procedurally-driven approach and stay inside Blender. You can get good results with it, though SP is still superior and a bit more intuitive I’d say.

Thank you for your awesome feedback!!! Been an early beta tester for Fluent Materializer, but I want to learn a software dedicated just for texturing. Have you ever used 3DCoat Textura? They also give around 30-40 free materials every month* with their perpetual license.

I haven’t but will definitely check it out. The results definitely look very impressive, seems like it works similarly to SP but I’m curious if you know of any key differences.

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!
