that testpage isn’t very worthfull for me, since it is halfway around the globe almost… in California…and I am in Sweden…
I have seen speeds up to 2 Megabyte/sec. when I downloaded files from a swedish server…but the limit should stay at 1.2 Megabyte/s or something (yes…I am not talking about 1.2 Megabit !)
You darn swedes and your cheap bandwidth!
Martin
Well the thing I’m happy about is, unlimited bandwidth for downloading. No monthly 2 gig download, but just unlimited which I really like, never problems you got disconnected for 1 week or pay a bill because you played half life 2 and downloaded a bunch of music, movies, games or game packs. Well for so long If I can host a blender multiplayer game server, I’m happy with it.
At uni, I managed to get a download of 800kBytes/sec=6.4Mbps from a dual oc3 server.
Stole as much porn as I could muahhaha. Apparently the uni has to pay for what they use rather than do a one off fee. I overheard one of the admins saying they had a rather hefty bill.
Since I graduated, I just got a 256k up and down. It’s enough for me really. I would love that sweet deal you’ve got though Eric. I wish someone would hurry up and invent wormholes. Then my 50m ethernet cable would get all the way to Sweden.
Mind you, I could just hop into Sweden and I wouldn’t need porn.
Same here, finally got boradband about a month ago… Same speed as you…
In Mid-USA, I live in a rural area. We have wireless with 768kb up and down. It is way better than our 28k dialup before!
I got DSL last week, love it…the fastest download so far has been 350KBps…I have a question for everyone: what connection you have(dsl/cable/etc) and how much you pay? I think I’m(along with most NYers) over payng: $29.99 a month…btw what kind of program would I need to know the maximum bandwith?
congrats.
finally you can do the apt-get update then
.b
I’m going to be stuck with dialup until I move. Since I live in a remote little town, the only faster connection available is wireless.
what’s that?
It’s a much easier, more convenient way of updating things…
I have 1.5mbps DSL and pay about $60 a month, but that also includes phone service and such…
I have 1.5mbps DSL and pay about $60 a month, but that also includes phone service and such…[/quote] If I include the phone bill, it comes to ~$80…I got a special offer tho: 3.0mbps at the same price as 1.5mbps…
btw, cable service here is $29.99 for 6months then ~$60(that doesn’t include cable tv, another $50). Another question: what was the largest file anyone downloaded with dial-up? I downloaded a 128MB patch for BFV…
well they do say that pornography is the number one thing the net is used for…they also say the swedes are the bes…muffled noises…
Alltaken

Whe must use the bandwidth for something mustn’t we?

when I did a fresh install of Ubuntu (debian based distro) on my second system, my install speed was about 1 Megabyte/sec.
that’s nice…considering 10Mbit/s has topdownload at about 1.2 Megabyte/sec.
now…shall I pay one time fee of 45 Euro for upgrade to 24/1 mbit/sec. ?
and then same cost per month as I have now
