Been really trying to up my texture painting game. This is my most recent project. Let me know your thoughts!
looks amazing. can’t see anything wrong with it
the ship windows look very good. you have so many details that look spot on
Thanks for the comment! I appreciate the kind words
I read that as a “game about texture painting” and thought “Man, what GPU is going to run THAT?”
looks amazing
Really nice mood in the scene!
Can you share how did you made the fog in the distance and maybe share the settings if it is made with volumetrics?
looks awesome

You’re #featured!
nice work, reminds me of monkey island 2, the first town with all the bars and shops built in the boats!
Look good, I’d work more on the logs and tires textures?
One of my wife’s relatives who lived “out on the Cape” actually had a very similar thing in their back yard for many years. They called it, “The Boat,” and many a fine and fondly-remembered party was held there by a patriarch of their collected family. Alas, when he died they sold the property, and I’m really not sure what finally happened to the boat. (It was considerably smaller … who knows, it might be floating somewhere.)
Absolutely incredible, love it!
I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!
A texture painting game would actually be pretty fun haha! I think only artists would be interested in playing it though
It’s a very compelling image - nice work overall! If you are looking for critique, then read on … otherwise it’s a nice piece for your portfolio.
What I offer here are suggestions and observations only - feel free to disagree:
You have what appears to be conflicting indications of scale in the image - what I mean is that the background trees, grass, mud, etc are highly detailed and say “Full Size” - but the boat itself doesn’t have a lot of the high-frequency details you would expect of an object as large as it is. The details on the boat say “toy” and the details of the world it’s in say otherwise. I would expect the boat to have visible panels, rusting streaks from rivets, some sharper edges and corners, dented/bent railings, perhaps some dents or holes in the superstructure, etc. You want your textures on something like this to tell a story - to show the years of water running over it, the years of hands and tools and boots scraping over it. For example, the door of the wheelhouse is pretty clean for something that would be used as much as it would be.
The tarps on the boat are also pretty smooth for something that would be that large - I would expect more draping and folds - perhaps tattered edges and holes as well. It looks like you hand-placed them, and I would suggest using a cloth simulation to get a good look.
In regards to composition … the way the boat is cut off on the right keeps pulling my eye over there for some reason … maybe widen your frame? Also, there is a bit of competition going on between the brightness of the sky and the brightness of the sign/doorway. You might want to consider making one of them the dominant intensity.
Again, just my opinions/observations - feel free to disregard
It’s a strong piece as-is
It was actually a pretty simple set up. Just a cube with a volume shader then just played around with the density values.
Wow! Such great advice! I definitely see where I can make some improvements now. Those tarps always did bother me, but I think I just got to the point where I said “good enough”. I also agree that my focal point does feel a little weak. I need to do some revisions in this one for sure. Thank you for the input!!
