Baking particle system with modifier disabled

Hi all,

I’ve run into a problem I wouldn’t call a bug, but which is a bit of a nuisance.
When I try to bake a particle system, but the Show Render option in the modifier panel is disabled, the system will not bake. Blender will loop over all frames, as it always does when baking, but ends up saving 0 frames (and says 0kb), even though the Bake button turns into the Free Bake button.
Oddly enough, this doesn’t happen when the Show Viewport is disabled. (It also happens when they are both disabled.)

Has anyone else encountered this ‘feature’ as well?

I tried the exact same thing with some of the other simulations (smoke, soft body etc.) and it seems these sims don’t have this problem. Apparently, it is specific to particles.
