So I thought I’d try my hand at this. And there’s a lot of great ideas. I thought about something unique like using a light to unlock various levels, but in the end my FPS side of me got the better. My game is going to be heavily influenced by blenderrendersky’s work and the playable teaser game, except I’m going to try and bake cycle textures so the players won’t need a great graphics card for all the crazy effects like SSAO and chromatic aberration.
The Plot
You find yourself in a corridor which is well lit during a summer’s afternoon, with nice wallpaper and happy music playing… things look rosy, but as you walk through to the end you come right back to the start of the corridor and slowly you realise your sanity slipping as you have to solve puzzles along the way, armed only with your trusty baretta and limited ammo. As things take a turn the darkness soon becomes all to apparent and you realise something ‘Very bad has happened here’. You think you hear footsteps whispering and laughing, but as you turn around you see nothing. You’re goal is to try and uncover what horror has taken place here and who did it.
Good luck to everyone else, prototype shots to follow and gameplay.
Lol I think this is still scary even for the happy (light part of the game.) I’m getting scared just making this and I’ve not even put the sounds in yet! I need to tone this down.
Please don’t read this if you want to play the game.
I really like the idea of messing with your mind :spin:, so I was thinking the level, although being one corridor, you could have different things happening, like suddenly the world is flipped upside down and you’re walking on the ceiling, or a zero gravity where the props are just floating around. For the level puzzles they are going be unlocked by walking around looking for clues, and pressing certain keys when near certain objects, switching your flashlight on in the shadows to reveal messages… Lighting and music can change the mood from happy to horrifying. I also wanted to have a christmas theme going on with xmas jingles playing near the beginning. And there is going to be a great twist at the end… Stay tuned
Today I plan to finish the gun animation and get it rigged, and also rig the nemesis and create a more detailed game plan. Also add a health bar etc. Also planning on modeling and texturing a few props.
Okay finished rigging the gun, it requires so much effort I didn’t initially realise, not entirely happy with the smoothness of animation, but will leave this on the backburner and start rigging the enemy
Thanks that’s a good idea, I probably jumped the gun a bit and went straight into texturing, which I wouldn’t recommend. For the gun test I actually redid the scene as plain untextured primitives just to get the mechanics right.
Today, I plan to remodel my gun, I’m not happy with it at all, also going to bring in a few choice objects and render them as still and see how they look in my scene. Mainly a few lights, deskside cabinet, and a door.
Then I’m going to sit down and properly plan the game play. I’m also downloading a few sounds I might find useful, more to follow
