Here’s a birch forest I am creating with modular tree addon and procedural rocks. Any feedback is appreciated. Something seems off about the scale of things but I am not sure.

Maybe the trees should be bigger. And try to put more leaves on the ground.
I would say it depends what you are going for. If you are going for something cartoonish, this might already be close to what you are seeking.
However, if you are going for something realistic, then the scale and proportions of the trees are off. Based on the size of the grass and the trees’ own leaves, those trees are tiny and stubby, like at most twice the height of a person. The birch is a tree that usually grows tall and thin, especially when it’s in a forest. Look at reference photos and you will see what I mean.
Based on the thickness of the trunks, they should be at least 3 times as tall as you have made them (or the trunks should be thinner if you keep them at this height). Their branches should be longer and thinner, and there should be way more, smaller leaves (birch leaves are small).
Also, this is not helped by the large size of the grass blades, which makes the trees look small by comparison.
Finally, the rocks have a relatively low amount of detail and have a blobby shape, so they offer little help for the viewer to understand the scene’s scale. Rocks are a thing that sounds easy to make, but getting the accurate chipping, layered structure and cracks is actually really hard (which is why photoscanned rocks are so popular). This is fine if you are going for something cartoonish, but keep in mind it offers little help for the scene’s scale.
Thanks! Thats a lot of helpful feedback. Let me work on them. And you are absolutely right about rocks. I tried doing all sorts of procedural rocks but it’s a disaster As you suggested, photoscanned rocks maybe the way to go.
For photoreal images maybe. However, if you wanted something stylized, then sculpting might be the preferred way.
The grass being too big is the main issue, IMO.
Tried to fix the scale issues. The blue cube is there as a reference of human height (6 feet). Removed the rocks for now. Hope this is an improvement upon the older renders.
The grass is too obviously billboarded. I’d use more geometry for the grass, taking each blade in your texture, and giving it it’s own 4-6 faces, bending them about, then scattering them in clumps. Also, making them a little smaller was good advice.
Also, some more details, like roots and rocks, would do a lot to flesh out your scene. Maybe also put some erosion lines on your big hill, so it doesn’t look like you just pulled it up with a sculpt brush.
You are going the right direction!
The trees trunks have a much more correct size now (though I need to mention that birch leaves are much smaller and more numerous than this).
The grass seems to have a believable length compared to the human model.
Looks much better.
Plus, these images are nice and dramatic. When sunlight passes through a birch forest (in the real world), the whole scene “just seems to come alive.” You have clearly captured this.
Thanks for the feedback
Good work.
