I’ve been working on this canon for the last couple of days when time allows. I still have quite a bit to do especially with the textures (which I don’t have a lot of experience with). This is a canon that is made to look like an old one but it made from cast metal. It is completely workable.
Actually, the size of the cannon was secondary in deciding the wheel size. The carriage was pulled by a horse and needed to be able to roll over any terrain that could be navigated by a horse, sometimes at a full gallop… The larger the wheel diameter, the smoother the ride. Of course very large cannons required much heavier rigs.
bobg: You are right. Actually, I took photos of the cannon for my resource material. The cannon is smaller on this one but think the cannon looks better made a little larger.
RickyBlender: That seems to be a different cannon then what I am modeling. All thought it is an interesting one.
I’ve made some changes to the proportions and added some things. I still have a little more to model and then on to textures.
is that ment to be gold? most of the canons ive seen are always black cast iron/steel… the coolest canon ive seen is housed in the artillery museum Segovia, Spain. it looks like a kettle drum with no skin, 25cm internal bore, 50 cm long barrel… cant remember what that shot - it was a defensive seige canon. meaning theres millions of designs around
I’ve made some updates to this cannon model. The barrel is a cast brass to my knowledge. I’ve added some textures to it. I’m still not happy with them and I want to add a few more items to the scene.
